Big Morongo Canyon Preserve
Nestled among the Little San Bernardino Mountains in the Sand to Snow National Monument, the desert oasis at Big Morongo Canyon is one of the 10 largest cottonwood and willow riparian habitats in California. The upstream end of the canyon lies in the Mojave Desert, while its downstream portion opens into the Colorado Desert. There are numerous trails to walk and hike, including a wheelchair-accessible boardwalk through the marsh and riparian habitats. At 31,000 acres with elevations ranging from 600 feet on the canyon floor to 3000 feet at the top of the ridge, this diverse landscape has been an important part of the Morongo Basin’s natural and cultural history for almost two billion years.

Outstanding tour with Jeff and Josh. Super service throughout, and tons of knowledge about the local surrounds, geology, history and ecology shared. The Hummers were a blast and have zero problem taking you into the back areas of Joshua Tree away from any others; in fact we saw exactly no others on our tour of the Ntl. Park. The Oasis is fascinating and not what you'd think from Hollywood movies. Being ON the San Andreas Fault is a bit surreal. We got a great morning filled with fun and learnings in an incredibly unique corner of America. Do it.

There is nothing quite like driving through the Joshua Tree desert in the back of an open top military Hummer and we loved it! Our guide Gary was friendly and informative and we felt in 4 hours we got a real sense of the this amazing desert environment. Highly recommended.
