Big Morongo Canyon Preserve
Nestled among the Little San Bernardino Mountains in the Sand to Snow National Monument, the desert oasis at Big Morongo Canyon is one of the 10 largest cottonwood and willow riparian habitats in California. The upstream end of the canyon lies in the Mojave Desert, while its downstream portion opens into the Colorado Desert. There are numerous trails to walk and hike, including a wheelchair-accessible boardwalk through the marsh and riparian habitats. At 31,000 acres with elevations ranging from 600 feet on the canyon floor to 3000 feet at the top of the ridge, this diverse landscape has been an important part of the Morongo Basin’s natural and cultural history for almost two billion years.

Mike, our driver was at our resort to pick us up promptly at 8 AM. It was a beautiful day and extra warm clothes were not needed. Mike was very knowledgeable about the area and the history of the Coachella Valley and the surrounds. The stop at the oasis was fascinating where Mike also explained the history of the oasis and the San Andreas fault. A good tour.....but a little dusty and dirty. Don't wear good clothes.

This adventure far exceeded any expectations we had. To start the pick up was at our resort and on time. Our guide from minute one was professional, fun and full of awesome energy. He always made sure we were safe, plenty of restroom stops and food offerings if needed. We were lucky enough to have the guide named Jeff, highly recommend would be an understatement! To top this great day off we were lucky enough to have the kindest people with us also visiting the area for a quick vacation. Jeff always made sure we had plenty of the best picture opportunities, an experience we will never forget. Thank you Jeff, you rocked it today!

I cannot say enough good about this tour and our guide Patrick. Patrick grew up here so he has first hand experience to draw on and actually lived through a lot of the history. He actually knows many of the Native Americans who are descendants of the first settlers. The ride can be a little bumpy at times, nothing dangerous and it is off road. The Thousand Palms Oasis is beautiful and Josuha Tree National Park is breathtaking. Again, I cannot rate this tour high enough ...
