I have never been on a helicopter before and when they told me to sit in the front seat, I told them I was nervous. Our pilot Dane said not to worry and that I would be fine. He was right! Except for the times when he made turns and I closed my eyes, the flight and landings were so smooth! The amazing views were breathtaking and my fears just melted away. However, the highlight of our trip was being on the glacier with the dogs. We loved it! It was truly a magical experience! The sled goes around a few times and then stops for the dogs to rest plus you get off and play with these wonderful dogs. It also gives you a chance to just look around and soak in the beauty of your surroundings. We loved the dogs; they are friendly and ready to run! Absolutely worth it! This checked off a bucket list item but guess what? I want to do it again!
Checking in was a bit hectic. You need to have your documents ready and rush to be outfitted with boots, and then watch a safety video. The staff was good about fitting us in boots. There are waterproof jackets and pants if needed. We had our packable down jackets, gloves and hats and while it did snow a little bit, it just added to the experience. Use the restroom here in the office before flying because you won't get another chance until you return.
I wasn't as excited about the additional glacier landing because I was so over the moon with the dogsledding experience. When we got off the glacier, it was very icy, so my husband who just had knee surgery, and I walked around a little bit and then chose to stay near the helicopter while everyone else went a bit further. My adult son went with the pilot and saw deep crevices and blue ice and enjoyed hearing the pilot talk about the features of the glacier.
