Alaska Tales
Our tour representatives will meet you at the main cruise ship terminal and check you in for the excursion. You will board a transport bus with a guide that will bring you to the Mendenhall Glacier for 45 minute stop. Here you will be able to explore the area on your own. The parking lot is a very short walking distance to magnificent photo opportunities, hiking trails, visitor's center, and bear viewing platforms raised above the salmon spawning streams. Once the glacier exploration is complete, we will transport you to the local boat harbor. Where you will be met by our captain and crew who will walk you past the fishing fleet to board one of our state-of-the-art boats built for wildlife viewing. The boats are equipped with restrooms, heated cabins, large windows, comfortable seats, and outdoor decks for viewing. We will then begin a 2 hour journey in search of Humpback Whales and other water wildlife native to the area. You can sit back and relax while taking in the beautiful scenery on the boat ride or assist us in searching for signs of whales including water spouts, tail dives, and whales jumping out of the water. No trip is the same as mother nature decides what to provide for each tour. Your naturalist and crew will interpret what you are seeing and explain the behaviors of the massive and beautiful creatures. At the end of the trip the captain will make an announcement and we will return back to the harbor. Feel free to enjoy a complimentary snack and beverage as you soak up your remaining time on the water. Your driver will meet you at the harbor and bring you back through town to the main cruise ship terminal in downtown Juneau where the excursion started.

We had a wonderful time. We were picked up at the cruise port and taken to Mendenhall Glacier for about an hour. Our drive EJ was fun and told us a lot of history during our ride. He picked us up from the glacier and headed to Auke Bay where we were greeted by our crew, Danny, Emma, and Captain Mike. They were all extremely friendly and happy to answer questions and tell us about the wildlife in the area. We got to spend a couple of hours on the boat whale watching. We got several good photos of the humpback whales. On our way back, we made a special stop at a buoy where Emma said the "juvenile" sea lions hang out. She wasn't wrong. There were a good number of them just hanging out. Perfect photo ops. When we were through EJ picked us up to head back to the port. He stopped at a few places on the way where you could choose to get off instead of going back to the port. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about this tour. Well worth the money.

We were picked up from our ship and taken by coach to the Whale Watching boat. The guide/driver was a little too enthusiastic for our taste. The whale watching was very good. You could either stand on deck or go inside. We were fortunate enough to see quite a few whales although you only ever see them "blowing" or their tail as they dive down. The boat is too big to go right up close. There was a very experienced marine biologist on board who gave an excellent commentary. Next stop was the Mendenhall Glacier. You cannot get very close but it is a good view. We also went to the river and saw sockeye salmon spawning. Weather was not fantastic so warm up warm and take gloves and a hat for the boat trip.
