Alaska Tales
Our tour representatives will meet you at the main cruise ship terminal and check you in for the excursion. You will board a transport bus with a guide that will bring you to the Mendenhall Glacier for 45 minute stop. Here you will be able to explore the area on your own. The parking lot is a very short walking distance to magnificent photo opportunities, hiking trails, visitor's center, and bear viewing platforms raised above the salmon spawning streams. Once the glacier exploration is complete, we will transport you to the local boat harbor. Where you will be met by our captain and crew who will walk you past the fishing fleet to board one of our state-of-the-art boats built for wildlife viewing. The boats are equipped with restrooms, heated cabins, large windows, comfortable seats, and outdoor decks for viewing. We will then begin a 2 hour journey in search of Humpback Whales and other water wildlife native to the area. You can sit back and relax while taking in the beautiful scenery on the boat ride or assist us in searching for signs of whales including water spouts, tail dives, and whales jumping out of the water. No trip is the same as mother nature decides what to provide for each tour. Your naturalist and crew will interpret what you are seeing and explain the behaviors of the massive and beautiful creatures. At the end of the trip the captain will make an announcement and we will return back to the harbor. Feel free to enjoy a complimentary snack and beverage as you soak up your remaining time on the water. Your driver will meet you at the harbor and bring you back through town to the main cruise ship terminal in downtown Juneau where the excursion started.

An absolutely amazing time and Alaskan experience. We started at the Mt. Robert’s Tramway which was easy to find and the guide tools is to Mendenhall Glacier which we had an hour to explore. My sister and I took the 2 mile round trip to Nugget Falls and it was so beautiful! The trail was nicely paved and the forest was gorgeous. There were lots of people but the falls were still awe-inspiring right next to the massive glacier. The entire park is easily explored for a couple hours. Awesome! From there was the highlight of our trip, the whale watching. The tour bus picked us up and dropped us off at the Ramsey. The guides and captain- James, Greg, and Monica took us out to a known feeding area. We saw a bunch of whales including the biggest female - Mooncheese, Tucker who did a bunch of tail flaps and even breached, and the mother and calf pair Flame and Cinder. Our guide told us breaching for a whale is like running a marathon and we got to see it twice! That was definitely the highlight of the tour. Greg was hilarious and so informative from telling us the routes the whales take to their gestational period to what they feed on and other antics about the whales. He was really funny and interacted with the group at a fantastic level! He made the trip super memorable. 10/10 recommend this tour as it really allowed my group to feel like we had the true Alaskan experience!

Hopefully they allocate more time to the glacier viewing in the future, but overall it was a great experience.

Went on this excursion from the port (cruise stop), all the employees of Alaska tales were wonderful. Crew on boat (James, Greg, Monica) we’re very knowledgeable and funny. Got to see multiple whales. Would highly recommend! Super easy excursion getting picked up from port and taken to the glacier and whale watching
