Alaska Tales
Our tour representatives will meet you at the main cruise ship terminal and check you in for the excursion. You will board a transport bus with a guide that will bring you to the Mendenhall Glacier for 45 minute stop. Here you will be able to explore the area on your own. The parking lot is a very short walking distance to magnificent photo opportunities, hiking trails, visitor's center, and bear viewing platforms raised above the salmon spawning streams. Once the glacier exploration is complete, we will transport you to the local boat harbor. Where you will be met by our captain and crew who will walk you past the fishing fleet to board one of our state-of-the-art boats built for wildlife viewing. The boats are equipped with restrooms, heated cabins, large windows, comfortable seats, and outdoor decks for viewing. We will then begin a 2 hour journey in search of Humpback Whales and other water wildlife native to the area. You can sit back and relax while taking in the beautiful scenery on the boat ride or assist us in searching for signs of whales including water spouts, tail dives, and whales jumping out of the water. No trip is the same as mother nature decides what to provide for each tour. Your naturalist and crew will interpret what you are seeing and explain the behaviors of the massive and beautiful creatures. At the end of the trip the captain will make an announcement and we will return back to the harbor. Feel free to enjoy a complimentary snack and beverage as you soak up your remaining time on the water. Your driver will meet you at the harbor and bring you back through town to the main cruise ship terminal in downtown Juneau where the excursion started.

Surprised by the glorious weather after docking at Juneau in thick fog, we had a great morning seeing the Mendenhall glacier and waterfalls after being taken there in the M&M Blue bus. The only issue was that the bus was a little cramped and several passengers were standing. The driver provided a constant commentary as we proceeded along the route to the glacier, though my wife found his commentary a bit over exuberant ! We were given two hours at the glacier which was plenty of time to view and photograph the glacier as well as take a leisurely walk out to the waterfall. We returned to the bus area and awaited our Green Bus at the Goat bus stop which turned up on time to take us to the harbour at Auke Bay where we boarded a small boat. Upon boarding the boat, Captain Maryna provided a safety briefing which was delivered in a humorous and lighthearted manner without being detrimental to the serious nature of the message. We then experienced a most wonderful afternoon out on the sea watching whales. We also saw a group of sea lions frolicking near the shore and an eagle flying around with seagulls swooping around trying to steal its fish ! Superb Alaskan views of snow capped mountains with the occasional glimpses of glaciers as well. Greg provided much background information and answered all of our questions about the whales and other wildlife as well as providing information about our journey and the environment in which we traveled. Overall, we had a terrific day which was exceptionally well organised. Everyone we met from the guy who sold us our tickets , through the bus drivers to the crew of the boat were friendly, courteous and helpful - but above all, much fun. We paid less than half of what NCL (our cruise line) were charging for similar trips. I highly recommend these guys and all your money goes to them and the local economy rather than swelling the pockets of cruise line shareholders.

We had a great crew on our Alaska Tales whale watching tour. Captain Maryna and crew members Greg and Danny were so knowledgeable and accommodating. We saw whales multiple times and as an added bonus we got to see hundreds of sea lions sunning themselves on little island. Beautiful scenery and comfortable fun boat ride. Can’t wait to come back!

Wonderful experience and crew! The crew really knew their trade, were friendly and very helpful. We actually saw two whales fully breaching the water!
