Overview

This grand kayaking adventure will take you to the most remote areas of Assateague Island. Most days we encounter the wild Chincoteague ponies grazing along the marshlands, but always remember these are wild animals and some times you see them and some times you don't. We know all the best locations to view the ponies so we do get to see them 75% of the time. We will also get the chance for some great photo opportunities of the Assateague Lighthouse, one of the oldest running lighthouses in the country. We might even get to see a few of the unique and rare birds migrating through Assateague Island.

Chincoteague Island

Chincoteague Island is loaded with wildlife. It is nature at its best.

Assateague Island

Assateague Island is the home of the Wild Chincoteague Ponies and dozens of species of birds, the best place for sightseeing.

Assateague Lighthouse

The Assateague Lighthouse was built in the late 1860's and is still in operation today.

The boat tour and the kayak tour were excellent and also very different--so it was worth doing both! Boat captain John was very knowledgeable about the area, the ponies, and the birds and shared the information as needed, but also let us enjoy the solitude and just watch/take in the beautiful scenery. The kayak tour was so much fun and our guide was able to make every participant (all at different levels of kayak experience) feel welcomed and a part of all aspects of the experience. Bring binoculars and a maybe a jacket for the boat--it was windy on the day we went. This is a very professional and personal tour company (Assateague Tours at Snug Harbor)--what a great way to make memories and enjoy the area!

Basha is the most amazing and patient person. She took me, someone that had kayaked only once before, out for an easy going paddle. She was encouraging and willing to accept my fears and limitations. This would not have been the case if there had been a group of people on the tour. I am thankful that I picked this particular tour to go on. I would highly recommend this tour. By the time I come back to take the tour again, I will be more experienced with kayaking thanks to Basha's enthusiasm. Thank you so very much for blessing my life with this adventure.

We had a amazing 1,5h experience with our guide on a sunny Wednesday. We did some kayaking and saw 7-8 wild ponies, lot of birds and an old lighthouse. Highly recommended!
