Due to the nature of booking on a third-party site, and our small group size, we highly recommend giving us a quick call after you book to make sure that your preferred departure time works for you. During the busiest days we often run full. In the unlikely event that your preferred trip is already full then we will definitely get you out on a trip leaving at a similar time. We just don't want to cause you any disappointment. Thank you!

Fidalgo Island
Bowman Bay is located on Fidalgo Island and offers a peaceful place for kayakers of all ages and abilities. Just outside the bay participants are treated to expansive views of Fidalgo Island and the rest of the San Juan islands.

In addition to a gorgeous afternoon on the water, our guide Tim shared so much history of the area, knowledge of the wildlife and marine life. We saw flying salmon, seals, otters, and many types of birds. We even tried the kelp! It was a great activity to do with our friends that were visiting from the desert.

We were late for our reservation due to miscommunication in directions to get to the kayak rental place, so the guide had to leave without us. I called and explained and the rep was incredibly snippy with me. I asked for credit to reschedule and she said she ā€œmightā€ get back to me, but she doubted the owner would give me credit towards a future trip. That was 3 days ago. I haven’t heard from them. Terrible customer service skills. I don’t recommend this company. Know before you go.

It is unfortunate that you felt like our office staff gave you terrible customer service. We try extremely hard to help our customers and to provide the best service possible. It is hard to understand how you were late to the trip when you were in Anacortes (which is less than 15 minutes from the departure location) a long time before you needed to be there. The directions were spoken to you on the phone, with the added caveat to watch out for the mistake that some GPS services make in sending people to the wrong parking lot and how to avoid that mistake. I appreciate the feedback, we will review how the staff are relating these directions and make any necessary changes in order to avoid any future issues. Unfortunately, when you originally booked through Viator we were not able to send you our own in-house email confirmation with the same written directions included. As a standard protocol we call all TripAdvisor/Viator bookings to establish direct communication and to be able to send our confirmation emails. We could not do this because an incorrect phone number was entered when you made your reservation. We messaged you through Viator and were once again given a number that did not work. We messaged you a third time and that is when you told us that you "didn't think you could make the trip". Your message was sent just a couple of hours before the departure. The staff then switched to email messaging with you. We prefer to do this when we don't have a valid phone number so that the communication is more direct (than through a platform like Viator). Sometimes outside platforms can get glitchy and lock people out, preventing quick communication. In the email we informed you that we would be unable to issue a refund because you were within the Viator (and our own) cancellation party. The staff also informed you that you could call the office to discuss the issue directly with us, which you did. We were concerned that perhaps some sort of emergency beyond your control was the reason for not being able to make the trip, but you told us that there was no emergency. You informed us that you were actually already in Anacortes...again, less than 15 minutes from the tour location. The person you spoke with tried to encourage you, and told you that there should be no problem with you making it on time. She proceeded to give you directions. She also let you know that if you needed us to hold the trip then we could do so, but only for a short while out of respect for the other guests. Our cancellation policy is clearly stated on all of the Viator affiliated platforms, and is expressed to everyone prior to being able to complete the booking process. The same is true when booking directly through us. When you book with us then there is an implicit promise that we make to you. We are saving you a place on the trip and will not book others in your place. When you accept a cancellation policy then you are making an implicit promise to us that you will actually show up. There are occasions when we are more than happy to give someone a credit for a future departure. People have unexpected emergencies, injuries, etc, and we do our best to accommodate them. However this wasn't the case for your party. You were well within the cancellation policy and we were unable to fill your spots with other guests. We did hold the trip for as long as we could and departed late. This was an inconvenience for the other guests on the tour, but we were trying to accommodate your party. Ultimately we made the decision to depart because any further delay would have not only been problematic for the guests who were already there, but also for the guests on the next scheduled departure who would also be delayed. As it turned out you arrived at the launch site 40 minutes late and the guide had already left. These trips are short in duration and he simply could not afford to delay any longer. I appreciate the last statement in your review and I agree with it. It is always important to "know before you go". We state our policies as clearly as we possibly can. If someone wants to reschedule or cancel their trip then all we ask is for enough notice to be able to open their spaces up for other people who would like to join us. Although you are clearly disappointed, it seems unfair to make a claim that we have poor customer service. On the contrary, we did all that we could to try and make it as easy as possible for you to experience the trip that you booked with us. I hope that someday you might reconsider and join us for a fun day on the water. Thank you.
