If you are visiting Kona then this a MUST DO! There are multiple companies that sell tickets to Manta Ray Snorkel and here are the things I loved about this particular group. They do multiple tours with small groups. We had 6 people total which was perfect. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Free snacks and hot chocolate as well as all the gear you need. Here are some tips to help you on your experience:
1. Just wear your swim suit. You can bring a backpack and they will let you store it in their truck. But since you are meeting in the parking lot, theres no need to carry stuff a few feet away.
2. Rent a GoPro from them! Its worth it! The light on the camera is very bright and attracts the Mantas! My husband rented one and was next to me. The Mantas got so close to him that a couple bumped into me despite me trying to avoid them. They give you the SD card after.
3. You donāt have to be a good swimmer but just remember that you are going into the ocean at nightā¦they will provide life jackets as needed and you get a noodle to help you float. It helps to be comfortable in the water. If at anytime you are not comfortable, the staff is ready to help you get back on the boat.
4. Dont worry too much about the best time. They wont get ātoo fullā and come feed when they see the lights. A little later has the advantage that most of the other companies are done so you get more Mantas to your group! We went around 9 pm and it was great!
5. The Mantas get extremely close. They came inches away from my face. I think we were in the water for 30-40 mins which was plenty of time. It gets cold after awhile and they have wet suits to help with that. Me and my husband just went in our swimsuits and it was perfectly fine.
The value of this experience far exceeds the price. I would of paid 3x more easily!!! We are still talking about it and it was the highlight of our trip. We went to the seahorse farm, volcano park, snorkeling at Captain Cook, botanical gardens in Hilo, etc. All were amazing experiences but this was the best by far!!!
