Kentucky Derby Museum
Located in Louisville, the Kentucky Derby is one of America’s most exciting horse racing events in the world and takes place at Churchill Downs Racetrack. It is the first leg of the American Triple Crown and is known as "The Most Exciting Two Minutes In Sports" because of the actual duration of the race.  Some like to call the race "The Run for the Roses" for the blanket of roses draped over the Derby winner. When you visit, you will enjoy a self-guided tour of the Kentucky Derby Museum, which includes two levels of family-friendly interactive permanent & temporary exhibits.  Ten minutes past each hour, you will have the opportunity to see "The Greatest Race," an 18-minute movie about the Kentucky Derby and its history, a story that puts you right in the heart of the first Saturday of May.  Immediately following "The Greatest Race" and at 30-minutes past every hour, you will experience an exhilarating 30-minute guided walking tour of historic Churchill Downs Racetrack and witness where some of the most famous teams of jockeys and Thoroughbreds competed such as Secretariat, Barbaro, Big Brown, California Chrome and the most recent Triple Crown winner in 2015- American Pharoah.
Cancellation Policy
For a full refund, cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure time.

We had guests in for the Notre Dame Football Game and the highlight of their Labor Day weekend was the Derby Museum visit and Tour of Churchill Downs. Our tour guide Barry literally grew up in the neighborhood around the track and no one could have been more knowledgeable about the Derby. It was fascinating to learn about the history of the KY Derby and go back side and see the horses and the 600 people that live there and take care of them. It was one of the best tours we have taken anywhere and I highly recommend it. The tour can be done walking or via a large golf cart for older visitors.

We are so glad you had a wonderful time! We loved seeing all the Notre Dame fans in town for the big game. Thank you for leaving a review and for visiting Kentucky Derby Museum. Barry is one of the best, we'll pass along your sentiments!

I'm not a big horse racing fan, but when in Rome ... so while I was in the area, I decided to tour the museum. The museum is where you can purchase a guided tour that will give you a quick (less than hour) walk through of Churchill Downs as well. There is also a gift store there too. The museum isn't very big so it wouldn't take too much of your time to see it all. It had an exhibit of Derby gowns and hats in one portion of it that i walked through (I believe there was another portion, but I was there not long before they closed so I didn't take too long). Unless you're a big horse racing fan, the museum won't take too long to visit but it's nice seeing Churchill Downs.

Thank you for visiting Kentucky Derby Museum and for leaving a review! We are glad you enjoyed your time. We have two floors of exhibits. We hope next time you can stay a little longer and take one of our in depth tours, as well. Many people, as you did, can have a wonderful visit in just a few hours, too!

Watching the Derby on television is fun to see how folks live it up every year. Seeing the place when there’s no racing puts things in perspective. The bus tour to the in-field was great, and seeing the barns and horses were awesome. Packing that many people in that space with that much $$$ flowing is mind-boggling. We went to get a mint julep, but left with so much more.
