We did the rainforest canoe and nature walk as a cruise excursion while visiting Ketchikan. Highly recommend and was perfect for our family, ages 6-50. The canoeing on the lake was so fun and loved our guide, Evelyn, who was very knowledgeable and kept everything interesting for the different age groups. Love that we were all in one large canoe so that it wasn't a big deal that my 6 year old wasn't able to paddle much. Loved the echo demonstration, seeing carnivorous plants, info about the trees, etc. The food was wonderful and the clam chowder was some of the best I've ever had. Loved the rainforest hike - it was very educational and perfect length for a family. It did rain some and the company provided raincoats for those who forgot to bring their own.

So I know there arenā€™t a lot of reviews on this one, but those that are here reflect exactly how it goes. Itā€™s a long bus ride, about 45 minutes and itā€™s a remote pot hole riddled road for a significant part of the ride... so if nothing else, itā€™s an adventure just getting there. Then they gear you up with your life vest and ore and load you into the boat. Boats are fantastic and easy to maneuver. We adored Doran. We mustā€™ve said his name 50 times on the ride back so we could make sure to put it on here. Heā€™s funny, knowledgeable, and you can tell he loves this job. Thereā€™s so much joy that it becomes infectious. Ask for him! Iā€™m not kidding. Itā€™s Ketchikan- it rains like 310+ days/year. We had rain gear, but our pants still got soaked and we were chilly. It felt so right in the rainforest though. Not a worry in the world. So then the canoeing on the lake, gorgeousness, history, echos (too fun), then you dock and munch on delicious and very Alaskan eats. Chowder is bubbling over the fire when you arrive along with hot chocolate and coffee. Then the hike. Tons of information on plants and animals in a short easy hike. You almost want more, but based on our time constraints ashore, this was perfect. Overall- I love how this business was managed. The good old boy feel comes through in the best way. Almost like youā€™re family. Highly recommend.

My daughter and I booked an excursion with this company through our cruise line. It also included a visit to Totem Bight State Park. It was the last excursion of our vacation and it was a great way to end. Doran was our guide and did an excellent job giving lots of information and stories behind the totems at the State Park. The canoe adventure was outstanding! There were only 8 of us on the tour but paddling was fun and scenery was breathtaking. It was perfect weather. When we pulled in to shore Sofie greeted us with a delicious clam soup, hot coffee, salmon spread and homemade jelly spread. After this leisurely break Doran took us on a short nature walk. it was amazing how much information he gave us on the small area we covered. He threw in a couple personal stories of the area and made this tour one of the best. Be sure you book it if you're lucky enough to get to Ketchikan, but be sure you ask for Doran and Sofie.
