My husband and I had a wonderful time on the two hour kayak tour through the mangroves. Our guide was very knowledgeable about sea life and the eco-system. Throughout the paddle she was able to find a number of sea creatures including sea cucumber, conch, sponge and sea hare. In addition to seeing the sea life up close, our guide would share a few fun facts and allow anyone who was interested to take a turn holding the creature(s). We couldn't have asked for a nicer day on the water, the wind was calm which made paddling a breeze. There were dry bags for rent but we used a go pro in a water proof case to capture pictures and videos throughout the tour. We enjoyed kayaking through narrow sections of mangrove. We saw nurse sharks napping on the ocean floor, iguanas climbing the trees and exotic birds flying overhead. I would highly recommend this tour on your visit to Key West!

I can't overstate how much fun we had on this tour! Jenna and her timid dog Finn were our tour guides, and we chose a tandem kayak. The tour guides obviously don't have any control over what wildlife will be present, so I'm not sure if the creatures Jenna found were seasonal or typical. Your mileage may vary. Jenna pointed out a Portuguese man o' war when we first got started. These are beautiful, but they sting, so she left it alone. She also found a small jellyfish that I cannot recall the name of, but a quick Google search makes me think it was a cassiopea. These do not sting, so she gently picked it up with a net and allowed us to see it up close. She did the same with a starfish, a live conch, and a really cool and unique creature she called a sea hare that expelled ink in the water and all over her arm. Sounds pretty gross, but it actually had a floral smell that she likened to lavender. It was obvious that Jenna enjoys her job and greatly respects the creatures she shared with us. She discussed conservation efforts to protect them, particularly the conch, before gently releasing them back into the water. She even explained some brief history of the island, and an explanation for the wild chickens running around everywhere (they were released after cockfighting was outlawed and have since become wild). This is a great activity for couples or families and tandem kayaks allow even small children to be included. If this is something you'd enjoy, don't hesitate to book--probably my favorite thing we did in Key West, even with the somewhat chilly weather.

Tour guide (Jen, I think), was patient and incredibly knowledgeable. It was a very windy day so we were unable to see any wildlife, but she did her best to give us the best experience possible. Lazy Dog also offered complimentary transportation to and from our hotel!
