What To Expect
1
Musk Ox Farm
Visit the Musk Ox Farm, known as one of the most unique animal husbandry projects in the world, for up close views of Musk Ox! Walk the trails aside these fascinating Ice Age creatures as you learn about their adaptations and place in the future of Alaskan agriculture. You'll also have time to explore the Musk Ox Farm's shop for gifts such as qiviut (Musk Ox wool, one of the most sought after fibers in the world)!
2
Hatcher Pass
As we ascend the Talkeetna Mountains, we will enter the alpine area of Independence Mine State Historical Park in the breathtaking Hatcher Pass! During the summer, we will take an interpretive walk led by your local guide. The Independence Mine trail is ONLY open 6-8 weeks of the summer so if you visit us in July and August, the Chugach State Park Rangers will open the gates and we are permitted to walk through the old mining town on established trails. This old mining town is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In early summer and throughout the fall months, we'll access neighboring trails for our nature walk led by your local guide. During the winter, we'll visit a local recreation area for a snowshoe stroll or winter hike, with demonstrations by your local guided.

We enjoyed the tour of the Musk Ox farm. The girl showing us around was very informative and had a lovely personality. Seeing the mountains with snow on top was amazing. The weather was good, just a bit cold. Tiffany, our tour driver, drove us up to the snow line of a mountain. She is a very safe driver, her care for all her passengers is great and she also is a lovely girl. Thank you for another great day

I was in Anchorage for a week and went on tours with almost every tour company. I have to say that Salmon Berry Tours was the best one out of all of them. The tour guide was very good at narrating without being invasive and talking too much so we were allowed to enjoy the scenery too. He was great at keeping us on time without making it feel like we were on a timeline. It was the only tour where we introduced ourselves at the beginning "since we'd be spending the day together and having dinner as a group". The tour itself was fully narrated and included the drive to Palmer and stop at the musk ox farm for a tour of the pastures where the musk ox are kept. You're allowed time to buy gifts, use restrooms etc and then board the tour shuttle again. After the farm we stopped by a beautiful river for some photos on the way to the Independence Mine park. We were at the park for about a hour which was the right amount of time. It's cooler there so make sure to dress appropriately (about 15 degrees cooler than Palmer). We then drove about 1/2 hour back to Palmer for 6pm dinner at the Turkey Red restaurant. They had a limited menu where n/a drinks, appetizers and entrees were included in the tour price (alcoholic drinks are extra). There was several food options available for those with restricted diets (vegetarian, gf etc.) Overall it was very relaxing but educational and fun. I'd recommend this as something different to do while you're in Anchorage.
