What To Expect
1
Kailua Pier
The central meeting place in downtown Kona, where missionaries arrived bringing western religion to the islands.
2
Ahuena Heiau
A former sacrificial heiau (luakini) dedicated to the god Ku where human sacrifice was performed, then later rededicated by King Kamehameha to the god Lono as a temple of peace.
3
Kamakahonu Beach
This is the location where King Kamehameha I transitioned into the next life, and also the site of ancient human sacrifice.
4
Hulihe'e Palace
Will the ghostly "lady in white" of the palace show herself again? Was it Pele, or Princess Kaiulani? We've witnessed her on tour once before...and then she disappeared!
5
Mokuaikaua Church
The lava rock cornerstones of Hawaii's very first Christian church were formerly part of an ancient Hawaiian temple, built hundreds of years in the past. This newly introduced religion eventually led to events that are considered Hawaii's civil war and the end of the ancient Kapu system.
6
Kona Inn Shopping Village
Built on ancients grounds, the Kona Inn was responsible for ushering in the era of tourism in Kona. The site was formerly home to King Kamehameha II and is known as "papa'ula" or "red flats" as there may have been human sacrifice here as well. End the tour with a cleansing sage smudge at the new Big Island Ghost Tours booth.

My husband and I booked this tour last minute after coming across it online. Our tour guide Zach is very passionate about the paranormal and came equipped with his spirit box. He was knowledgeable about the history of the area and provided some great stories. Unfortunately nothing out of the ordinary happened on our tour and it started to rain but it was an enjoyable experience. I didn’t realize how much history of the Hawaiian culture took place here. Bring a light jacket or umbrella just in case and some comfortable shoes since the whole tour is about 2 hours long.

This is a tour of Zach's supposed experiences with the supernatural on ohter ghost tours. There is little of interest in his stories of moving beer bottles and suspicious shadows. Worst of all, he had a companion surreptitiously take photos of our group of minors and proceded to use those photos to promote himself on social media. The young ladies involved were completely creeped out and felt violated.

We appreciate your participation and wish you would have notified us sooner (during the tour) about the alleged photos you mention. The ‘companion’ you mention is our backup tour guide and he saw a nice photo moment with the historical bay and heiau in the background. It was not done surreptitiously as you’ve suggested and it’s since been removed from our fan page. Despite your claim, the guests in the photo appear to be having a great time.

I was very disappointed with the ghost tour. It lacked more ghost stories. I felt like I was in a history class. It was not all that.

We are disappointed with your review and lack of appreciation for the history of Kona which has led to many of the supernatural occurrences we highlight on tour. Perhaps you would have preferred actors jumping out of bushes but Unfortunately we don’t do that. Our tours are a nice blend of history and mystery and It says that on the website and tour description.
