I didn't really expect to have as much fun as my wife and I had when we took this tour. We showed up, and were the only ones on the tour, so it was just us, and our guide Dave. We set off on the tour in the open air jeep, barreling down the highway to the La Plata canyon. I had forgotten how fun it was to ride in the open air, wind blowing in your face! Once we hit the canyon, we were just blown away with the natural beauty of the canyon. Be advised, the roads get increasingly rough the higher into the canyon you go- tighten your seatbelts! The ride takes you above 12,000 feet, so bring a jacket! The views were simply outstanding- you get beautiful views of the Needles, and Engineer mountain. Dave was an outstanding guide, very engaging and knowledgeable of the area. Well done, Dave! We didn't quite make it to the highest point of the tour, as there was still too much snow on the ground, and as a result we had to back down the trail about 3/4 mile so he could turn around. It was a beautiful, exciting tour, and worth every penny. Thank you for taking such good care of us. It was a high point of our trip. Notes- Bring water and snacks- Dave had some of both, not sure if that is standard or not. He also had extra jackets, but it doesn't hurt to bring your own. Go to the bathroom when you hit the canyon- it'll be 3 hours before you have another chance!
