As a writer and now a journalist for a newspaper in Los Angeles, I have traveled the world, to many beautiful places and worked with many photographers. This weekend, my boyfriend with a passion for photography, talked me into a whirlwind trip up to Lake Tahoe to take a Fall Color Tour with Keith Price. Rich has done this trip many different times in different seasons but never the Fall Color Tour and even though we had to drive nine hours each way (with an overnight each way in Mammoth), he was so excited and determined, he talked me into it. Rich kept saying, there are no words to describe what you are going to see and do. I'm so glad I went along with the ride. I can't imagine there is a more professional, knowledgeable or more entertaining guide than Keith Price. This was truly one of the most enjoyable days of my life. Keith took us to a place where 80,000 salmon were swimming upriver to spawn and showed us how to photograph the sight. He took us into an Aspen Grove and took photos of the leaves falling around us; the warm colors of the autumn lights are so romantic and happy, we will frame them and have them on the hearth. Keith knows quiet spots far from the maddening crowd, where he patiently shows you how to set your cameras for the wildlife you will capture on his tour. He does this with such alacrity, that it looks so easy. He actually gave us a disc of the photos he took of us, over three hundred, while we were waiting, and although he is such an amazing photographer, the background looks photo shopped, but I can say, because I observed - I am a journalist after all - that they are not photo shopped because he had the disc up on his computer within seconds of us returning to his office and I was there while we chose the photos we wanted clipped and framed. And somehow he made us look wonderful and natural in all of the shots. The wild animal shots are truly breathtaking - he has no fear and a way with animals that I've never seen before. I have now hanging in my home two of the most incredible photos I've ever seen : "Charge" which is of a beautiful Mountain Lion with a thick winter coat, the gold fur bristling in the silver light, as he charges straight at you, and an amazing photo of a Mama Bear on her back nursing her cub. As a mother of three, this profound photograph is one of the most beautiful images I have ever seen. As for Keith, I feel like I've made a friend that I would never want to lose. It was a blessing to spend the day with him, to witness his keen insight, great sense of humor and inner joy. It is obvious that his love of nature and animals has given him a generosity of spirit - the beauty, kindness, patience, tolerance and restraint he showed us was remarkable and I will never forget this fun day. We will cherish our photos forever.
