He told us stories you normally donā€™t hear about Charlestonā€™s African-American residents from the beginning of slavery through Reconstruction and Jim Crow. He brought the stories to life. Some of it was uncomfortable to hear but all of it was enlightening. My friend and I would highly recommend this two hour walking tour.

Mr Fordham's depth of knowledge and engaging presentation style made this tour a highlight of our South Carolina trip. We learned about the history that's often withheld. Mr. Fordham was also open and very personable, it was a privilege to spend an afternoon with him.

Damon is amazing - a raconteur, historian, academic, writer... and he brings exceptional clarity and drama to lots of Charleston history that isn't taught in schools. His retelling of lesser-known highlights of Reconstruction in North Carolina was both inspiring and saddening. We're so glad we went on this walking tour, I'd recommend it to everyone. You'll come away feeling like you dipped below the surface of this glossy, touristy town ā€” and you'll even be a bit more optimistic about our ability to use the past to reshape the future.
