Lovers Key Guided Eco Tour-Mangrove Estuary

Overview

This is a 2 hour and 15 minute tour with Lovers Key Adventures master naturalist guide, Stephen, who expertly guides our guests through the mangrove canopied estuary explaining the importance of the southwest Florida eco-system -the history of the area- from the Calusa Indians, Conquistadors, and Ponce De Leon..on. He finds wildlife and introduces our guests to the various birds, vegetation, dolphins, and manatee (if they’re around that day;) This is one of the unique experiences available in southwest Florida. No tour is ever the same there is no script and many guests return year after year to enjoy Stephen's expertise and the beauty of Lovers Key
Our guests also often take advantage of the beaches and hiking trails offered inside the state park. There are many photo opportunities available to capture the memories of this incredible experience within the natural surroundings of the untouched Florida landscape.

What To Expect

Lovers Key State Park

Lovers Key State Park offers 2 1/2 miles of beach coastline with incredible shelling. There are 5 miles of hiking and biking trails with wildlife sightings daily. The tours take place in the estuary with manatee and dolphin sightings (if they choose to show up) many or most days. 4 hour Kayak rentals are also available at your leisure-unguided with single and tandem kayaks and canoes as well as stand up paddle boards rented by the hour.

Our tour was amazing. Our guide Stephen's knowledge and passion for what he does makes the tour even more special. The manatees were definitely the highlight of today's tour. As we floated in the kayaks, the manatees kept coming up to us. We got fantastic pictures. Being on a guided tour, we were able to see and learn so much. Stephen showed us tarpon, mullet, starfish, clams, urchins, green herons, and much more. This is the second tour I have been on and we are planning on going on a sunset tour soon.

Our kayaking tour with our guide, Stephen Denmark, in the estuary at Lovers Key enjoyable and educational. Stephen guided us through areas of Lovers Key at a comfortable pace while pointing out plants, fish and wildlife in the mangroves. I highly recommend thus tour.

We rented out a guided tour with open kayaks. The tour itself was about 2.5 miles but we didnt feel the distance as our guide Steven and his beagle kept us informed about the ecology and biology of the mangroves. He pointed out fish like mullet and tarpon, crabs, different birds, and bottom fauna such as 5- and 9-armed starfish, and the star of the show: a very pregnant seahorse! Unfortunately, we saw neither manatees nor dolphins but there's always next time! That's just the nature of Mother Nature! The mangroves abound with life and are well worth a visit. I would definitely go again! 😀
