Lovers Key Guided Eco Tour-Mangrove Estuary

Overview

This is a 2 hour and 15 minute tour with Lovers Key Adventures master naturalist guide, Stephen, who expertly guides our guests through the mangrove canopied estuary explaining the importance of the southwest Florida eco-system -the history of the area- from the Calusa Indians, Conquistadors, and Ponce De Leon..on. He finds wildlife and introduces our guests to the various birds, vegetation, dolphins, and manatee (if they’re around that day;) This is one of the unique experiences available in southwest Florida. No tour is ever the same there is no script and many guests return year after year to enjoy Stephen's expertise and the beauty of Lovers Key
Our guests also often take advantage of the beaches and hiking trails offered inside the state park. There are many photo opportunities available to capture the memories of this incredible experience within the natural surroundings of the untouched Florida landscape.

What To Expect

Lovers Key State Park

Lovers Key State Park offers 2 1/2 miles of beach coastline with incredible shelling. There are 5 miles of hiking and biking trails with wildlife sightings daily. The tours take place in the estuary with manatee and dolphin sightings (if they choose to show up) many or most days. 4 hour Kayak rentals are also available at your leisure-unguided with single and tandem kayaks and canoes as well as stand up paddle boards rented by the hour.

Karen did an excellent job on our tour. She was very knowledgeable about the wildlife and made it a fun experience for my 10 year old daughter as well. We also saw manatees so that was a huge plus!

Karen was the best!!! We saw a manatee, dolphin and a iguana who was almost in the kayak!!! She told us a ton of cool stuff about the birds, mangroves and the terrain. Best guided kayak trip, I have taken!!! Highly recommend!!!!

I have kayaked this area once before, but knew nothing of the area and really what it was that we were seeing. Stephen Denmark clearly loves the area, and his dog Bowzer. They are the perfect pair to set an enchanting mood, as we learn about the ecology of the area and some historical facts. Stephen set my granddaughter at ease, and when she saw the 2 of them balancing on his paddle board, she probably figured they would get eaten first, finally agreeing to come along. He was eager to show us some wildlife, and we did find manatees (one who seemed to know him), and dolphins, if mostly out in the distance. We had planned on six kayaks, and Stephen had them ready. When we switched to doubles he hauled the singles out, and the doubles in all the while saying no problems. He probably knew we were better off. All in all a fun educational time, and the 2 1/2 flew by! Stephen found us a sea urchin, a little bitty starfish and a baby flounder, which he then returned to the water. The grandkids will have great stories.
