Lower Loop Van Tour from West Yellowstone: Grand Prismatic and Old Faithful

Overview

This Active Van Tour is a great way to see Yellowstone National Park beginning in the fun gateway town of West Yellowstone. The early morning part of the tour explores wildlife haunts in the famous Shadow Canyon of the Madison River. This area is home to bear and elk. Later we hike to an overlook of the famous Grand Prismatic Hot Springs. If you don't feel like walking we find a safe, scenic spot for you to wait for the group near the van. Next we explore the Old Faithful area, including some time at the famous Old Faithful Inn. We continue over the continental divide at Isa Lake and down to the West Thumb Geyser Basin on Yellowstone Lake for a view of some spectacular lakeside thermal pools. Continuing our drive along Yellowstone Lake we arrive in the Hayden Valley where big herds of bison roam. Finally, we arrive at the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone to view the canyon and the amazing falls (one is almost 200 feet tall!). The day concludes back at West Yellowstone.

Joel was our guide and knew more than you would think any one should. Opening day June 22,22 was historical. plenty of stops, we saw all the animals including a bear, bald eagle and all the hooved animals. 10 people in the van and they were all fun which made it nice. Saw everything you knew you wanted to see plus some. Great tour.

This tour was absolutely magnificent! A trip of a lifetime. The tour covered so much. We met awesome people and our tour guide, Joel was the best! He was so knowledgeable, patient, funny, and engaging. My teen boys were engaged, learning and very happy! It was truly perfect for all of us. Thank you!

Didn’t even stop by grand prismatic. Our guide was too busy talking. The lady he was training (looked like she was trying to get his attention) but never did. All we did was basically drive all day. Definitely could have done that ourselves. Would have liked to have had a little bit longer at old faithful. When we did get out it was hurried.

Usually we view Grand Prismatic Hot Springs and watch Old Faithful Geyser erupt (about a half hour in the Old Faithful area). We have talked with the guide about this tour and it is our hope we can do a better job on future tours sticking to the game plan. Thank you, again.
