What To Expect

Adventures on the Gorge

Meet your rafting trip leader at the departure point. You will listen to a brief orientation and get your gear (personal flotation device, helmet and paddle). Then, you will have a 30-minute ride on a school bus down to the river put-in. Your guide will go over additional instructions once you get in the raft. The trip begins with a few smaller class I-III rapids as you ease into paddling and working as a team. Then, you hit some bigger rapids rated class IV-V. About half way through the trip, your trip will pull over and eat a deli-style lunch on the shore. After lunch, you will continue downstream into the heart of the Gorge. Here you’ll go through several rapids rated class III-V. Between rapids, there is time for swimming, floating and maybe (based on water levels) jumping off of rocks. The trip ends just past the New River Gorge Bridge.

Booked 1/2 day River rafting on Lower New River, Daddy-Daughter (12) day. Impressed by the professionalism of the operation: strong emphasis on Safety: informative pretrip briefing, quality gear, solid rafts, and most importantly, excellent guide (Sean, aka "Peek-a-Boo") who gave clear instructions on paddling, safety swim directions, and guided our boat through Class 1-5 rapids. We had 2 novices, and no one in our boat "swam", or fell into rapids. Exhilarating experience! Daughter loved it....notes: Surgical masks (Virus precautions) provided to wear on the 25 minute bus ride to and from the river.

I wanted to thank "Jack" in customer service for returning my call and listening to me about some serious complaints we had with the guide on our rafting trip in June. This was our 3rd trip down the river and because of the excellent expriences we had the first two times we wanted to bring more of our friends along so they could experience all of the fun too! unfortunately we had a terrible experience with our guide that trip. I gave a bad review back in June because of this guide. What I want everyone to know from this new review is Adventures on the Gorge made things right and we were each given a free voucher to use for another rafting trip next year to make up for that negative experience! Thank you again and I look forward to our next trip and being able to write a wonderful review!!!
