Adventures on the Gorge
Meet your rafting trip leader at the departure point. You will listen to a brief orientation and get your gear (personal flotation device, helmet and paddle). Then, you will have a 30-minute ride on a school bus down to the river put-in. Your guide will go over additional instructions once you get in the raft. The trip begins with a few smaller class I-III rapids as you ease into paddling and working as a team. Then, you hit some bigger rapids rated class IV-V. About half way through the trip, your trip will pull over and eat a deli-style lunch on the shore. After lunch, you will continue downstream into the heart of the Gorge. Here you’ll go through several rapids rated class III-V.  Between rapids, there is time for swimming, floating and maybe (based on water levels) jumping off of rocks. The trip ends just past the New River Gorge Bridge.

We booked the evening river dash for our family of two adults, two teens and a tween. One adult and child had been rafting before, the rest of us were anxious beginners. We did struggle to find the location - some additional signage would have been helpful. After arrival, from start to finish, everything was perfect. The guides were extremely knowledgeable and fun. We stopped at a large rock after practicing paddling for a bit in the calm waters. All were able to climb up onto the rock to jump in the water. Our kids loved this! After that, we set off on our ride through the rapids. There were three rapids in our trip, the first being the most exciting. The guide told us exactly when to paddle and didn’t get upset if we didn’t do so well following instructions, being newbies. One child wanted to get out and swim through the calm areas and he was allowed, and the guide helped him back in the raft. There was filtered water on board for anyone who needed it. The bus ride to and from the trip was almost as exciting as the trip itself, and there were sodas and beer to enjoy as well on the ride back. Excellent experience. We will try a longer trip next time. Thank you!

A group of 10 of us went whitewater rafting. Six of us were in one raft and 4 in another. Our group of 6 had a guide by the name of Daniel. At the onset, Daniel appeared to be very personable. However, after lunch and getting through a rapid which in our groups opinion went well, Daniel began his belittling of our group that we were not listening to his instructions of paddling, used the "F" word that this was no Disneyland trip, etc. Never in my life have I been spoken to like this. Very unprofessional!! Completely changed the experience for all of us.

Adventures on the Gorge is always a great place to visit. They have great food at their resturants & great souvenirs to purchase to remember your trip. They have many choices for lodging such as camping, renting a cabin, to home rentals. Their pool is very nice. Rafting is ALWAYS fun no matter which trip you decide to go on.
