Gaylord’s is a very good restaurant and the show was interesting. Run away from the combo. The 4 course dinner started off with philo shrimp or lumpia. The shrimp was very good. The "lumpia" was that of an egg roll you would find at a bad Chinese restaurant. It wasn't vegetable lumpia, fresh lumpia, Shanghai lumpia, whatever the one made with ground beef with chestnuts and green onions, etc. My wife said it definitely was not lumpia. Believe me. She would know. Next was a garden or caprese salad. We all got the caprese. It was actually good. The main was "fresh catch" ot hoisin glazed spareribs. Well, salmon was the "fresh catch". There's no salmon swimming off the coast of Kaua'i. The normal diners were offered mongchong, a very tasty fish. I don’t like salmon, so ribs it was. The ribs were drizzled with hoisin. It was not very good and about what you'd expect as an appetizer. My wife got the salmon. It was cooked nicely. Dessert was banana cream pie or profiteroles. We all got the profiteroles. It was just okay, although the ice cream portion was good. If I were to have never gone to Gaylord’s before this, I would never consider going back based on this experience. Now the show. It was a theatrical performance with a story line. It was entertaining. The performers were enjoyable to watch. I was expecting the "normal" experience, where there's less theatrics and more of a back story for the various pacific island dances. The venue was weird. It was like a circus tent, but it didn't distract from the production. The reason for the low rating? Well, this was not an inexpensive package. It was close to $700 for three people. The dinner was subpar. People would be better off eating at Gaylord’s separately one night and doing the luau a different night.
