I found the whole experience to be a bit disappointing but maybe my expectations were not as they should have been. Our walking tour of the "gardens" in particularly disappointing as I found it impossible to determine where the "gardens" began and the natural forestation ended as it all looked the same to me. I heard it suggested that perhaps it would be better to have taken the tour at another time of year when the "gardens" were more in bloom. Frankly, I doubt that as I felt that the "gardens" were just unkept. The "nature tour" was equally disappointing as it was a trolly ride past a few swampy areas that were home to a few turtles, baby alligators and a mass of "duck weed" that covered virtually every square inch of the waters surface. It seemed that they were particularly proud of the "duck weed". Saying that, the tour guides were all pleasant and knowledgeable and the manor house was as expected for a house of its age but I was disappointed in that the original kitchen and back of house rooms on the lower level have been turned into a multi room gift shop. (I was even disappointed in the selection of souvenirs for sale here.) I would only recommend that you take the slave tour and walk the "slave" tour (I didn't take that tour but it must be better than the "nature tour.)

I liked that it gave me a tour to know what to look for but also to give me some free time for myself to explore

This was a wonderful tour. Shawn did a great job talking about Charleston and interesting information about the plantation on the ride out. He also did a nice job on the garden tour. Everything was so pretty. The tram ride around the grounds and water areas was also interesting. The female tram driver gave out useful information. The plantation home tour was very interesting. Here again the guide did a great job. The entire tour was very well thought out and timed. We really enjoyed it all!!
