The tour pick up was at the Charleston visitor centre so very easy to find. We had a pleasant 30 minute ride in an air conditioned bus with a driver telling us all about the area (only slight niggle was that the bus smelt of cigars). Then on arrival at the plantation, he took us for a lovely walk around the gardens for 45 minutes which are beautiful then we went on a tram ride for another 45 minutes, on which we saw quite a few alligators and turtles and more of the stunning gardens. Then we were left to our own devices for 45 minutes before a guided tour of the house, then bus back to Charleston. Really enjoyed the tour and the gardens were spectacular, we just would have liked more time to explore by ourselves.

We were in downtown Charleston on a weekend getaway without a car so this was a perfect way for us to be able to go see the plantation. Lisa was our driver/chaperone, she spoke with us on the drive out and acted as our guide for the garden walk. While on site we went as a group with the others on our bus on the nature train and into the plantation house and both of those tours were narrated by employees of Magnolia, Lisa did not come with. We would have really liked to go into the cabins and take the slavery to freedom tour but it was not included with this and there wasn't ample time to branch off on our own. We had 45 minutes free time which most in our group, including us, used to grab lunch at the Peacock Cafe and browse the gift shop. The one other thing we would have liked would be for our tour guide to offer to take a few pictures. Along the garden path whenever folks stopped to take photos they'd have to hustle afterward to catch up with the group. Being that is was a larger size group as well the few times Lisa paused people were milling all about photo bombing the others whereas if she did more of an organized thing folks would know when it's their turn. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking to immerse themselves in the history of the area and needing the transportation to do so.
