What To Expect

Magnolia Plantation & Gardens

The history and beauty of Magnolia Plantation has stood the test of time. It is also the only Plantation on the Ashley River that survived both the American Revolution and the Civil War. It is one of the oldest plantations in the south and is also known as America's most beautiful Garden. This guided Magnolia Plantation Tour comes with round trip transportation in our climate controlled buses. All gate fees are included in the price of this 4.5 hour tour and will allow you to step back in time, so you can experience Magnolias incredible history. On this tour, you will experience a 45-minute narrated tram ride past slave cabins, through swamps, rice fields and see wildlife such as alligators, egrets, herons, and turtles on the nearly 600 acre plantation and garden visit. You will also receive a guided walk through America's last large scale Romantic Garden, which is also known as America's most beautiful Garden.

Great tour! Beautiful place, very well kept! Tour is very well organized, just enough time to see everything and learn history of that time.

Our tour guide Allen was full of information and lots of fun. The plantation building full of historic pieces and well-maintained. The sandwich shop was reasonable and the food was great. We saw lots of alligators on our tour of the grounds. Our biggest disappointment were the “gardens”. We had visualized something like the Biltmore or the European gardens. The gardens are actually just paths through overgrown timber. Also the work sheds and equipment were easy to see from the trolley. It would be nice if they weren’t so visible. Glad we took the tour but just felt the landscaping and grounds were lacking.

Our tour guide was Shawn. He was very knowledgeable and made the drive to and from the plantation very pleasant. Each part of the tour from the gardens, the house and the wildlife on the property was great. A very enjoyable experience!
