Lots of information given about the city of Charleston and the Magnolia Plantation. However, we had the three different guides (bus drive, tram drive and house guide) and much of the information was repeated each time. The tour could have been longer and more information covered but overall I thought it was great.

Very enjoyable excursion. Excellent guide and the plantation is beautiful, serene, charming. I felt like I was being transported to Scarlett O'Hara's stomping grounds. The weather was hot and humid and several mosquitoes decided I was an acceptable snack. Bring a bug repellent.

We arrived in Charleston on a Cruise Ship! July 29, 2019. The tour company had a van waiting to pick us up outside the terminal and take us to the Visitors Center. A nice touch that we didn't expect. From the Visitors Center other guests boarded and we continued to have a scenic tour and history briefing on our way to Magnolia. Our tour guide was excellent! On arrival our group was given the time frame for each segment of the tour along with location of pickup point, amenity locations, and restaurant facilities. Our first experience was a walking tour of the gardens which were beautiful. Much of which was shaded to give a reprieve from the July heat. The walk takes you across bridges over ponds, with wildlife. We saw turtles grazing on rocks and a few alligators! There are also monuments on the property to mark historical events that took place at locations along the Ashley River. Surprisingly enjoyable but take bug spray as there were some knats and mosquitoes in the shady areas. Part 2 was a trolley/train ride thru the estate, with a narrated tour by Plantation staff. Audubon lovers will enjoy this. We were shown the Slave Quarters, farming areas, and given insight into the life on the plantation. We spent about 45 minutes on the trolley/train. Then we were given the house tour, which was lead by the Plantations staff at a specific time. The staff was very professional. Afterwards we had free time to have lunch and visit the gift shop! It was an interesting day and more than we expected. We highly recommend taking this tour. It does involve walking, climbing stairs, and be prepared with a bottle of water and bug repellent if you go in the hot summer. I'd give the tour 5 stars*****
