Out of any trip I have ever been on this was by far the best excursion I have ever been on, and the price for the excursion was the same a renting a kayak for a few hours other places on the island. When starting out John was a little slower getting our group of 8 people onto the water then the other Kayak tours launching from the same beach, but his pre-trip instruction was not only valuable for the trip but for any future time we go snorkeling or kayaking. We had some life long lessons to make ourselves better at kayaking, and I have definitely been doing some things wrong in the past at places were they just give you a kayak and say good luck. I am used to doing single person kayaks, and in the past using a 2 person kayak felt chaotic but not on this trip. John really helped to instruct the group the roles of each person in the 2 person kayaks and it made a world of difference the paddle out was so much better than the last time I did a 2 person kayak, and our entire group quickly caught up to the groups that launched 10 to 15 mins before us because after his instruction we were so much faster in the water. For the snorkel part John did a great job on not just following the other groups and problem solving the area that would be the best experience. When in the water he got in with us to help point out turtles, coral, and types of fish telling us stuff about everything we saw. We saw 4 turtles up close. He was very accommodating to everyone in the group so ever though in the group a few people got sick and some others were scared we still felt he spent quality time with everyone in the group. John was just very passionate about his job and if we come back to Maui we would 100% look him up and go on another tour with him. Our kayak and snorkeling tour with him was one of our two to things we did on our 2 week long Honeymoon.

We had John H as our guide and our 9 year old son just loved him! We had gone snorkeling before and our son did not like it, but John took time working with him and encouraging him and he just loved it. We saw lots of turtles, an octopus and more fish than I could have hoped for. Our son asked later if we can do it again with John - no better review than that. Thank you John H!

We had an amazing time kayaking out with John Shappell the tour far exceeded our expectations. We saw turtles non stop, we swam and dove with the the turtles, John took photos, and our group was small. Our tour guide was affable and accommodating. Highly recommend over cramped boat tours.
