I am solo traveler who loves adventure, and as such, I've been on a lot of kayaking and snorkeling trips, worldwide. The experience I had with my guide, John Shappell, was unparalleled and the trip one of my utmost highlights of my Maui vacation! John was not only a spectacular, warm, fun, and knowledgeable guide for the kayaking and snorkeling, but he's also an amazing photographer that captured every moment of my experience for me so that I could relax and be in the moment instead of trying to catch the perfect shots! We went to locations that were uncrowded and abundant with wildlife- turtles everywhere, tons of beautiful fish, and I even spotted a reef shark in time for John to get some amazing pictures and video! Truly one of my favorite kayaking tours/experiences I've ever been on, and that's saying alot! I'm already planning a return trip to Maui and I plan to go out with Maui kayaks multiple times! Mahalo to John and Maui Kayaks!

This was our fourth trip with Maui Kayaks and guide John Shappell and it was the best trip we have had. We went to Turtle Town and the weather was beautiful with Haleakala AND West Maui clear, the water clarity was the best and the ocean critter viewing was spectacular. As on our first trip, John spotted an octopus and let his guests hold it (if they wanted to and we all did!). There were so many turtles, reef fish and a zebra eel. One of the best things about John is he knows this ocean and wants his guests to have a great experience. So instead of jumping right in with the other 10 tours that are going out at the same time, he knows how to time it just right so we could have our own spot without tons of other people for the best viewing conditions. Make sure to tell him you want photos...his photos are wonderful and have been the cover of our Christmas cards twice. This year will be the third Christmas card! Thank you Maui Kayaks and John for giving us another wonderful vacation memory.

Our guide John Hess was awesome! Very knowledgeable, and passionate about his job. We saw manta rays, octopus, turtles (lots of turtles), and more different kinds of fish than I can count. This was a great experience, and a terrific and fun learning experience for the kids!
