Manatee and Dolphin Kayaking Encounter

Overview
It’s an encounter unlike any other as you spend the morning floating gently in the endangered manatee’s favorite lounging spots on the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. These friendly Florida herbivores just love to nuzzle, grip, and cuddle your kayak for a truly magical morning.

The kayaking adventure continues with a search for playful dolphins, often fishing actively nearby. As if beholding these majestic mammals in their element isn’t enough, you’ll likely enjoy many other Florida natives including pelicans, osprey, roseate spoonbills, horseshoe crabs, and even the occasional gator.

As visitors in the manatee’s natural habitat, you can expect to observe and study the famed Sea Cows. Keep in mind that we seek not to disturb, overwhelm, or disrupt the manatee’s natural behaviors, but rather let you experience them on their terms.

Husband and I went on private tour through intercoastal and nearby mangrove maze. Being someone not used to being on the water and in wildlife, Bob was a great guide. He had bunches of neat information to offer, made sure we (I) felt safe the whole time, and was just a great conversationalist! Private tour is the way to go if you really want to experience what A Day Away has to offer.

We showed up and were surprised to learn we were the only 2 people on the tour! Courtney the guide did a great job showing us amateurs the ropes and making sure we would be safe. We saw so many manatees as soon as we hit the water! No dolphins, but wild animals can do what they want. I enjoyed how we were given a good amount of time to explore on our own and go at our own pace. Courtney was also very knowledgeable about the species and area, as well as very conversational and fun! We can’t wait to sign up for another tour!

Originally, I booked the Bioluminescence Kayak Tour for myself and my daughter. We got a notice that the tour would be later in the evening. After a long day, we decided a quick nap would refresh us for our later tour. Unfortunately, our alarm failed to wake us. midnight rolled around an we jumped up realizing we had missed our highly anticipated tour. I found 3 voicemails to find our where we were. Disappointed, we went back to sleep. In the morning, I called them to find our if there was any way to get in on something else before we left the Cocoa Beach area. After a brief wait, I was told, "yes, we can re-book you and your daughter to the 1pm Manatee and Dolphin tour". We arrived a few minutes late due to the distance and they waited for us. Danielle and John provided and awesome tour. They shared all about the refuge area we were in, the wildlife in the area and how they came to be involved in the kayak tour business. We saw a dolphin in the area and a lots of manatees. They were many water birds and a beautiful storm developing in the distance. Our guides were attentive to weather and lightning reports. We always felt safe and saw all we came to see! I highly recommend any of their tours.
