Overview

It’s an encounter unlike any other as you spend the morning floating gently in the endangered manatee’s favorite lounging spots on the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. These friendly Florida herbivores just love to nuzzle, grip, and cuddle your kayak for a truly magical morning.

The kayaking adventure continues with a search for playful dolphins, often fishing actively nearby. As if beholding these majestic mammals in their element isn’t enough, you’ll likely enjoy many other Florida natives including pelicans, osprey, roseate spoonbills, horseshoe crabs, and even the occasional gator.

As visitors in the manatee’s natural habitat, you can expect to observe and study the famed Sea Cows. Keep in mind that we seek not to disturb, overwhelm, or disrupt the manatee’s natural behaviors, but rather let you experience them on their terms.

What to bring:
Clothes you don’t mind getting a little wet. Towel (left in car)
Water Shoes – sandals or Crocs that can be worn in the water
Bring an extra change of clothes just in case
Camera & Dry bag (optional) These are fairly useless to capture bioluminescence, but great for capturing people.
Bottled water, Snacks
Any special personal paddling gear if you like
You may bring a flashlight, though we will provide a safety light.

On Aug 8, 2019, we had a 10am tour. Unfortunately, no one was there when we arrived. We were confused. After calling, we found out that the company overlooked our reservations. We were just sitting ducks. The options given to us were: refund, another tour time or wait for a tour guide which they couldn't even give us an exact time. They didn't really offer us anything for the inconvenience. We checked out of our hotel to be there for the tour so we were stuck. We chose to wait. You would think that they would have cut us a break since it was an error on their part. But no. At this point we were very upset and annoyed. Two hours later, Jaden, our tour guide, arrived. He was amazing from the start. He understood the situation and was making the best of it. He was able to give us single kayaks and off we went! We had success with finding manatee, following pods of dolphins getting their grub on, spooked from a 15ft gator, hungry pelicans to beautiful ospreys and herons and a rain shower to cool off during our sunny tour. It was an amazing experience. Jaden was knowledgeable, personable and understanding to our needs (one being scared and the other being adventurous). Thanks to Jaden, our frowns turned upside down. Our company experience wasn’t positive but because of Jaden we changed our review from a 1 star to a 4! Had the company offered a discount or something for their mistake, then it would have been a 5 star! Thank you Jaden for an memorable experience 😄

This was an awesome experience I had the please to share with family. We all loved it and saw so many manatee close up. Brian our guide was awesome and knowledgeable. Thank you for the great experience.

First of all we got lost so we were running late... Brian and Jessie waited on us and I believe we were more upset than they were! Thank you again.. the tour was amazing the manatees come right up to your kayak!! Brian was full of knowledge and was more than happy to answer my teenage daughters questions.. one of the best eco tours I’ve done
