What To Expect

Marco Island

We will be paddling into the Mangrove Tunnels of the Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve just North of Marco Island launching from the Isle of Capri Paddlecraft Park. The regions only biologist guides will help you find unique wildlife while teaching you about the ecology and history of this amazing place! Get on the water with the guides who have spent their lives studying this area and explore with a real local biologist!

Be sure to ask about becoming a member of the Friends of Rookery Bay to further support the Reserve, gain access to special programs, events, volunteer opportunities, and discounts on tours, rentals, and at the nature store!

Our guide Nick was and excellent presenter. He definitely knew his stuff and was very interesting. I learned a lot. The tour included kayaking part of the bay and stopping by various mud flats. The latter led to our seeing some interesting wildlife, including sting rays. This was a visit I set up for my grandchild and his wife (in late 20's) and her father (60). I will definitely consider doing this again for friends and family who visit me in Naples.

We used Rising Tides three times, doing the Essence of the Estuary and Shelling Tours with Sarah and a two hour self-guided kayak rental from Shell Island. The whole online experience is top-rate, from waivers to downloading personal photos. Our guide, Sarah was both exceptionally knowledgeable (we really did question her over a variety of topics) and had a great eye to help me complete my shell collection. We were impressed that when we were the only customers, the tour still ran. The Keewaydin beach had an incredible variety of shells (go with your own list) and was my favourite tour as, in November, the bird life seemed sparse.

This tour was so interesting. The weather was perfect and we had a small group but the best part was Nick! A real biologist (they're not kidding when they say you get an expert) knew everything about the ecosystem and shared his knowledge. I spent all night telling my husband fun facts that I learned about the mangrove environment. But we did some great kayaking too, through tunnels and open water so it was the perfect blend of adventure and education. We had a great day!
