My mother (70 yrs) and I (35) booked the sunset kayak tour of the Estuary and Rookery Bay. We had a tandem kayak so one of us could focus on photography and the other could do the main bulk of the steering and paddling. My mom had no trouble powering us through the bays and navigating us through the mangrove tunnels! Our guides were both extremely knowledgeable scientists who offered information I never wouldā€™ve thought to ask about and also had answers to all our questions. We learned a lot. As the photographer in the kayak, I really appreciated that or guides were also photographers and knew exactly what we were hoping for. They managed to get us out to Rookery Bay in time for golden hour and the sight of the birds flocking in the sunset was breathtaking! We also got to see a team from Rising Tide rescue a pelican from a serious tangle with a line and hook. The pelican was in great and delicate hands and will live to see another day! The entire team was wonderful and we will be back again. Thanks Ryan and Evan!

Phoebe was an excellent tour guide with a wealth of knowledge about the plants and animals in the areas. A great way to learn about Rookery Bay. Navigating the kayaks through the mangrove tunnels was very fun. Highly recommended!

The 9am kayaking eco tour was such a cool way to learn and see all the biodiversity in southwestern Florida. Our guide, Matt, was so knowledgeable and taught us all about the mud flats, tidal patterns and all the creatures we saw (blue Herron, horse conchs (!), mangrove trees, and so much more!). The tour lasts about 2.5 hours and you have the opportunity to get out of your kayak at one point and rest among the mangrove tunnels at another point, so itā€™s not too strenuous. Matt also took pictures throughout the trip, so there was no need to bring your own camera or phone. Excellent trip and would highly recommend! Because of the mud flats, I recommend water shoes for sure as well.

Thank you, Taylor! It's such a unique experience to be able to explore with a real local biologist, and it seems like you took full advantage of the opportunity to 'nerd out' with Matt! There are so many amazing things happening in the estuary that we could be out there for a month and never talk about the same thing twice. So glad you loved your adventure and we look forward to exploring with you again soon!
