Manhattan Architecture Yacht Cruise

Overview
Step aboard the teak decks of elegant 1920s style yachts, Manhattan or Manhattan II, and enjoy a 2.75 hour cruise while learning about NYC's architectural landmarks from the water. The "Around Manhattan" tour narration, provided by members of the American Institute of Architects’ (AIA) NYC chapter, is general enough for visitors yet detailed enough for the locals.
Experience a comfortable and unique tour through the Hudson, East, and Harlem Rivers from a glassed-in observatory cabin, which has sliding windows for a fresh breeze, or wander to an open bow for more unobstructed views of the surrounding sites. On this cruise, guests will circumnavigate the island of Manhattan, passing under all 18 bridges, while taking in monuments, architecture, parks and infrastructure with narration throughout the cruise.

Important note: select departures on Friday afternoons will focus on Climate Change in and around New York City. Please call the operator directly for questions on the tour theme.

We really enjoyed this tour. The boat was very open & well designed to observe all the New York skylines. The architect guide gave a very thorough & interesting explanation of many buildings we were not even aware of....with all the historical anecdotes. We learnt a lot. It was made even more enjoyable with champagne & open bar with snacks as the tour takes over two hours. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Being a typical native New Yorker, I shy away from spots frequented by tourists. Of course that means there is a lot I haven’t seen. Took a chance that this cruise was going to be different from the average tourist traps and I was right. Started on the right note when we were escorted to the boat at the exact time we had been given. Plenty of room for everyone to sit. My husband was smart enough to ask which way we would be going so we could sit at the windows closest to Manhattan. Pick your seat carefully so that you don’t have to turn around much. Outside was great. An architect narrated the entire cruise including information about many structures, their designers and NY history. He was more than willing to take questions. We were served a free glass of wine, beer or champagne and light snacks. There were a diverse group of people on board including several natives like us and we all learned something! I recommend this activity. (We followed up with a walk on the High Line which is nearby.)

The boat was very nice and accommodating. The tour was good but felt s little too long. I wish it would have said it is not ideal for kids since it is a more quiet tour and other guests take it very seriously and don’t want anyone to speak.
