Walking down the main street in Jaco, we met Miguel of Toucan Tours who helped us arrange our day trip to Manuel Antonio. On the day of the adventure, one of the tour company owners, Walter, was waiting for us (5 people) on-time (not "Costa Rician" time ;) ) with a clean van! We started our 1-hour drive as a small group (just the 5 of us!) learning about Costa Rica from Walter who spoke excellent English and Spanish and who was extremely knowledgeable about the country. At Manuel Antonio, Walter made sure we had waters in hand and insect repellent if needed. With Walter as our guide, we were able to spot animals other groups had simply passed by! We saw monkeys (three different types when most people only see one or two varieties), a three-toed sloth, snakes, iguanas, and butterfly's. We learned about the trees and plants native, and even those that were not native, to Costa Rica. Walter made sure we were able to see the animals close up and even ensured we captured a great picture! We had an amazing time at the beautiful white-sand beach and were treated to lunch (and dessert!) of our choice (included in the adventure) at a beautiful hotel/resort. We were so pleased with the tour company, we set up our Tortuga Island adventure and a visit to Carara National Forest, again with Walter as our guide. When asked what was the best part of our Costa Rician vacation in Jaco, my father-in-law stated "Walter and Toucan Tours". HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!!

Our family of five (with adult children) visited Jaco for the first time in July 2013. We wanted to take day trips to see some of the wonders of Costa Rica. Tukan Tours was on the main street in Jaco. We stopped and chatted with Miguel and decided to book a tour to Manuel-Antonio National Park for the following day. We were picked up at our condo--on time--and driven in an air conditioned van to the park. Our guide was Walter and he was a delight! He was knowledgeable about the towns and countryside and as we drove shared many interesting facts about Costa Rican culture. Once inside Manuel-Antonio, Walter took his time and showed us plants and animals and gave facts about each. Walter carried a scope on a tri-pod to view animals far away and took photos for us. We saw sloths, monkeys, snakes, butterflies and iguanas. We saw so many things that we would not have seen if we had gone by ourselves! At the end of the trail there is a crescent shaped beach, which was spectacular! We spent time at the beach then headed back. The tour included water, fruit and lunch. We liked Walter so much we booked three more tours through his company. We rode a boat to Tortuga Island for some snorkeling and beach time on a white sand beach with pristine waters. The zip lining and horse back riding were very fun! There was great attention paid to safety. On our last day in Costa Rica we again had Walter as a guide as we visited the Carara National Park. Walter was informative and knowledgeable about the wildlife and plants. We saw many birds including a family of Scarlett Macaws! Carara National Park is less traveled than Manuel-Antonio, but worth the visit! The feeling is more jungle-like and filled with birds' voices. Tukan Tours, and especially Walter, made our trip to Jaco so memorable! We are already talking about going back.
