What To Expect

Island Queen Ferry

Once in Falmouth, you'll be dropped off at the Island Queen Dock where you'll board the passenger ferry. Your ferry ticket is included so you won't have to wait in line at the dock. Relax on a short 35-minute mini-cruise as you sail across the sparkling waters off the coast of Massachusetts.

Oak Bluffs Town Beach

You will arrive at the island of Martha's Vineyard around 9:30am. You will then have approximately six hours to explore Martha's Vineyard on your own. Your bus driver will be happy to provide you with more information and maps of the area should you wish to book additional activities.

Gay Head Light (Aquinnah Light)

Upgrade to a 3-hour narrated island tour to get an initial overview of the island. On the tour you will have a 15-20-minute stop at the Gay Head cliffs in scenic Aquinnah, where the first lighthouse was built.

Next, you'll pass through the beautiful historic village of Edgartown. Along the way, enjoy the commentary from your professional tour guides as they share their knowledge of the island's history and present-day events. You will then have approximately 2.5 hours to explore Martha’s Vineyard on your own.

Martha's Vineyard Camp meeting Association (MVCMA)

Upon completion of your day on the Island, you will board the ferry which departs at 3:45pm for a relaxing sail back to Falmouth, where the shuttle will be waiting to complete the final leg of your unforgettable day trip experience. A light snack and water will be provided on your trip back to Boston.

The Steamship Authority

Please note: For departures from April 2-May 26 and October 11-October 30, ferry service will be provided by The Steamship Authority. For departure from May 27-October 10, ferry service will be provided by Island Queen Ferry. Ferry schedules and locations may vary slightly. Times will be advised during reconfirmation.

Getting to see all of the towns on Martha’s Vineyard . The tour guide grew up on Martha’s Vineyard and was very knowledgeable.

The ferry ride to the Island was beautiful and relaxing. We didnt get the added tour of the island and we should have. We did end up finding a tour that turned out to be very good but suggest strongly to get the whole package. Our time on the island we informative and pleasant. We enjoyed every bit of it.

We did two tours with New England Trips and they were both great! First, we did the trip to Newport. Our driver was fun, and we enjoyed touring the Marble House and Breakers. I wish we'd had more time for the Cliff Walk but that would be my only change on that tour. On the Martha's Vineyard I wouldn't change a thing - it was amazing, and the highlight of our trip to Boston. I would highly recommend doing the optional 3 hour island tour as we saw the entire island (which was beautiful!) and heard some great stories from our driver, who is a local. I felt like the amount of time we had in Edgartown and the Gay Head Cliffs was sufficient for a quick taste, and I liked how we had a few hours of free time after the tour to see the town of Oak Bluffs before we had to get on the ferry. It was enough time to get a nice sit-down lunch, explore the gingerbread cottages, and hang out on the beach. If you opt out of the extra island tour I can see how it might feel like too much time on the island though, as you'll be basically stuck on the least interesting part of the island. For both tours, the pickup is early but the driver brings you to a rest stop on the way there and back where you can get coffee/breakfast and snacks. All in all, two fantastic day trips from Boston!

Chris (Newport) is an amazing tour guide that puts his heart and soul into every tour that he does. Tom, our Martha's Vineyard guide is also just as amazing. We have tried to schedule our trips out to include a little bit of everything, from touring to free time for lunch, shopping, etc.. Being a local, this is how I would spend a day. Remember that there is public transportation on the island to get around as well, so if you opt not to take the tour you certainly can get around to see some different towns.
