The Matanuska Glacier is one of Alaska's premiere destinations. Ā At 27 miles long and 4 miles wide it is Alaska's largest glacier accessible by road. Ā It also is boasts one of the most accessible areas to walk on of any glacier in Alaska. Ā Marvel at ice that formed thousands of years ago high in the Chugach Mountains.

Matanuska Glacier
Your day will start with a magnificent scenic drive along the Glenn Highway with stunning mountain vistas and plenty of time for photo stops. Ā Next we will drive to the toe of the glacier to dawn our ice cleats and begin exploring the glacier by foot. Each day is unique due to the dynamic nature of the glacier. We generally spend two hours and walk three miles on the ice.Ā  After exploring the glacier we will have lunch at a local eatery with stunning views of the glacier and surrounding scenery.Ā Each tour will be customized to suit your groups interest. A lifetime experience. The glacier views in winter are legendary. Highly recommend. It can be quite cold in some parts of the hiking trip. Consider using hand and toe warmers to increase the comfortable level.

Thank you for the awesome review of our Matanuska Glacier Winter Tour! Good advice on the hand warmers, we want you to be as warm and comfortable while exploring Alaska's largest glacier accessible by road! During the winter months (November - March) you'll want to wear plenty of cold-weather gear. We recommend: synthetic or wool long underwear, snow boots, warm socks, winter coat, neck gaiter or scarf, and hat and gloves. Thanks again and we hope to adventure with you should you return to Alaska!

I didn't think glacier hiking was on my bucket list until I went on this adventure. Highly recommend since this glacier if very accessible by road. It was cold (-2 degrees F) but with the hiking, the body does warm up... eventually. There was a small crevasse that I was not about to squeeze through so that was the one thing I didn't do on the tour. Otherwise, just to see up close and personal the different shapes and patterns of ice was incredible. A little pricey but it does come with transport and lunch.

Sean with Greatland Adventures was outstanding - we had a great experience touring the glacier and having Sean explain various features along the way. Our great experience started with Sandy who helped answer many questions and assisted us with scheduling everything. We would highly recommend this company to anyone!
