The Matanuska Glacier is one of Alaska's premiere destinations. Ā At 27 miles long and 4 miles wide it is Alaska's largest glacier accessible by road. Ā It also is boasts one of the most accessible areas to walk on of any glacier in Alaska. Ā Marvel at ice that formed thousands of years ago high in the Chugach Mountains.

Matanuska Glacier
Your day will start with a magnificent scenic drive along the Glenn Highway with stunning mountain vistas and plenty of time for photo stops. Ā Next we will drive to the toe of the glacier to dawn our ice cleats and begin exploring the glacier by foot. Each day is unique due to the dynamic nature of the glacier. We generally spend two hours and walk three miles on the ice.Ā  After exploring the glacier we will have lunch at a local eatery with stunning views of the glacier and surrounding scenery.Ā Each tour will be customized to suit your groups interest. This is a once in a lifetime bucket list opportunity to explore glacial ice!

This was the best tour on my week long December visit to Alaska. The winter landscape on the way leading to the glacier was breathtaking and the beauty of the glacial was accentuated by the sparsity of the visitors and access into crevices of the glacier which was possible to the lake being frozen. The colors of ice and landscape was unreal. Pure magic.

Highly recommended! Even though I traveled to Alaska in a ā€œslow seasonā€ and couldnā€™t see the Northern lights, I had an incredible experience going to the Matanuska Glacier. Sydney, our guide, was professional, knowledgable, attentive and very nice. The experience of was absolutely incredible! Definitely a ā€œmustā€ on the things to do in Alaska. I wasnā€™t lucky enough to see the northern lights, but I did go on the tour on the last day I was in town and Jonathan, our guide, was very nice and warmth, he seems to know Alaska very well and made some great recommendations on what to do/see. Prior to going on the tour, Steven and Brad were very communicative and on the days where the probability was null they did let me know upfront and always maintained clear expectations that the probability wasnā€™t the best during the days I was available; however, I decided to give it a try, and well... I had no luck, but I hope there will be a next time.
