What To Expect

Greatland Adventures

The Matanuska Glacier is one of Alaska's premiere destinations. At 27 miles long and 4 miles wide it is Alaska's largest glacier accessible by road. It also is boasts one of the most accessible areas to walk on of any glacier in Alaska. Marvel at ice that formed thousands of years ago high in the Chugach Mountains.

Matanuska Glacier

Your day will start with a magnificent scenic drive along the Glenn Highway with stunning mountain vistas and plenty of time for photo stops. Next we will drive to the toe of the glacier to dawn our ice cleats and begin exploring the glacier by foot. Each day is unique due to the dynamic nature of the glacier. We generally spend two hours and walk three miles on the ice. After exploring the glacier we will have lunch at a local eatery with stunning views of the glacier and surrounding scenery. Each tour will be customized to suit your groups interest. This is a once in a lifetime bucket list opportunity to explore glacial ice!

Bill was an amazing and knowledgeable tour guide! This tour was the highlight of my brief stay in Anchorage before I ventured to other parts of Alaska. One of the things I really like about booking a tour with Greatland Adventures is that they offer tours to solo travelers.Greatland Adventures is also very accommodating and quick to addresses any needs you may have (gear, lunch, travel, etc.) Bill was an amazing tour guide and very knowledgable about the history and surrounding areas around Matanuska Glacier. Rochelle made the booking process a piece of cake and was very accomodating when answering any questions. I would love to book another tour with Greatland Adventures on my next trip to Alaska!

My partner and I did this tour and it was simply amazing. Bill our tour guide made the trip so memorable! We had the glacier to ourselves and he was so knowledgeable. Then the free lunch was at the rifle lodge and it’s the best food ever, the salmon sandwich I highly recommend! It’s 100% worth every penny.

We loved the visit to Matanuska glacier with our guides Bill and Sydney who were great and very knowledgeable. The tour was hassle free with a pick up and drop off. We were the first ones on the glacier that dat and had an awesome 3.5 mile hike. Bill and Sydney also helped take our pictures. The included lunch was great as well !
