There were other choices for this tour on the booking site but glad I booked this one! It was a great tour. Very well paced and safe. You go from sea level to nearly 14,000 ft and the guide checked to make people felt ok and were able to continue. The Southwest chicken stew, hot tea and hot chocolate were nice touches. They have parkas if you get cold too! Jeff our guide was great! We missed the eruption but he was nice enough to show us and send us pictures of the eruption from the previous week. Sunset is beautiful. Keep in mind you are above the clouds so its a bit different sunset than by the sea. During our star gazing we were able to see Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn and Mars as well as galaxies and nebulae. Jeff was very knowledgeable. Would definitely take other tours from Hawaii Forest and Trail!

We hit the jackpot when we booked the Stargazing tour. Not only did the weather end up cooperating so we could see stars, but we were able to see the Mauna Loa eruption in its early days. Our tour guide Jeff made the extra effort to include all parts of the original tour as well as the newly erupting volcano. Seeing it from 14K elevation is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I'm so grateful we were able to experience it. Jeff was so knowledgeable and made sure everyone was comfortable. He was also a great host and fed us stew, cookies and hot cocoa. THANK YOU!!
