Mauna Kea Summit

One of the best places to see the sunset and stargazing and it's also the highest mountain on earth. Comfortable 4X4 passenger van as transportation.Jackets and gloves provided to keep you warm. Experienced tour guide to talk about our history and show you our amazing night with a laser pointer. Get close to the stars with our professional Celestron telescope and get a nice photo with our DSLR camera.

Gabe was our guide and was super cool. We rode up in a very nice van. The road was pretty bumpy for a bit, but the van kept things comfy until we got to the paved section. It was cold up there, but the parkas and gloves they provided were great. The views were stunning. We could see Maui poking through the clouds. There were so many research telescopes and we were right next to them. I'm kind of at a loss to explain how amazing an experience it was. We were on top of the world. The sunset was beautiful. After the sunset we came back to the visitor center, looked at Saturn through a telescope and Gabe pointed out various constellations. The skies were so dark, you could imagine the designs. They were also so dark that the Milky Way was very visible and I could take a 10 second picture with my iphone and have it look awesome. This was absolutely worth every penny. It was amazing.

This tour is a once in a lifetime! You are brought to the highest point near the equator, above the clouds, to where all the world's telescopes are. If you are a sci-fi or astrology fan or just science it is a must! Ridge our tour guide was a native hawaiin and amazing at all the history. They picked us up in Kona, saw the most amazing sunset i have ever seen in my life at 13,800 ft. They stopped along the way so you get used to the altitude, gave us gloves and parkas (but it felt like fall in New England). We cant stop talking about it and showing pictures. This tour was the best thing we have all ever done in Hawaii other than the Volcanoes National park. We took our sixteen year old- She was over the stars on this one! If you have breathing issues or back problems that would be my only caution and hope you get Ridge as your tour guide but they were all amazing!!!
