The view from the top was spectacular. You could see Maui feels like you can touch it. Our tour guide Addison was excellent. My wife got sick on the trip but she still felt it was worth it. The guides were well prepared with oxygen and barf bag. If you're prone to altitude sickness, I would definitely recommend hydrating well and have this be your only trip for the day. Because it starts at 3pm you'll be tempted to plan something the morning of, but definitely save your energy. The star gazing was also very informative. My kids thoroughly enjoyed the presentation.

This is a must do tour if you visit the Big Island. Everything went as described. The pick up was on time and about an hour ride to the base of Mauna Kea. You are then transferred to another nice sized comfortable van and driven to the Visitor center at 9300 feet. Stay there for about 45 minutes to get used to the altitude before going to the top where the telescopes are. From the base always thought there were only two or three but there are actually 13 and they are incredibly impressive. To be up over 13,000ft above the clouds was an awesome sight. watching the sun set under the clouds was incredible. After the sunsets you go down about 1000ft and they prepare some hot chocolate and snacks which were very welcomed since it had dropped below 40 degrees. Suggestion- wear a good pair of sweatpants, a heavy sweatshirt, good socks and a pair of boots. After it gets dark you get to star gaze. It was a beautiful clear night and we were able to see thousands of stars. Aiden our tour guide was incredibly knowledgable about the stars, constellations, and just about everything you need to know about Mauna Kea, and Hawaii in general. I would recommend this tour to all and I intend to do it again the next time I visit.
