Mele Luau at Coral Crater

Overview
In ancient Hawaii, royalty celebrated the local culture and special occasions by organizing feasts of mea'ai (food), hula (dance), and mele (songs). The word luau came from one of the foods served at the feast.

Mele Luau pays tribute to the culture of Hawaii with authentic food, dances and songs of Hawaii and Polynesia. Enjoy a lei greeting, welcome drink, pupus (hors d'oeuvre), and pre-show activities before you experience a Samoan cooking demonstration in an umu.

Featuring a feast of traditional luau food plus some vegetarian specials and children’s favorites is sure to please. The bar has tropical favorites, wine and local craft beer.

The show is a Polynesian Love Story with traditional dances including the Hula, Haka, Siva, and Otea, spectacular fireknife dancing, and some special surprises.

The tour driver was a half hour late on pick up. Then we ended up in what appeared to be a commercial/industrial area in someone's back yard for the "luau". On arrival, we received a lei that I am sure was bought in a dollar tree store. The food was absolutely horrific-the beef was so tough you couldn't even cut it, let alone chew it. The fish was very overcooked and dry. The rice was just a huge lump of starch. The chicken was very dry and over cooked. The raw fish dish was prepared with Salmon (not even a native fish to Hawaii), and was truly awful. The dancers were the best part of the event, and they were not fantastic. The Luau was to advertised to be from 6pm to 9pm. Our pick up was scheduled for 455 pm. The driver arrived at 530 pm.. We arrived at the Luau at 630, Were seated, had a drink, then ate and had the dancer show. Then we were loaded on to the bus at 815pm for the ride to our drop off. Definitely would NOT recommend.

The dancers were amazing and the staff were super friendly. Our family enjoyed the interactions. The food was just okay. The location was not what I was expecting and took the experience away a little.
