Tongass National Forest

The entire Mendenhall Glacier ICE Adventure Tour operates in the Tongass National Forest, the largest National Forest in the United States.

We and a blast with our guides Kevin and Paul. Both super friendly and kept us on track to get there and canoe with a short hike and get back to our cruise ship with enough time. I was a little skeptical to not take the official cruise excursion, but definitely was a good time. They had all the gear needed and their operations were super smooth. It is a little pricey, but certainly if you are coming from a cruise or want a pleasant guided experience with a little exercise, I would say it is worth it. We happened to have great conditions with it cool and avoided the rain. Along the way we saw a black bear, seagulls and eagles, and a fat porcupine named Alfred. :)

This company has the highest of standards. Mike and Bryce were all about safety first and then fun fun fun! And! They provide everything you need. We had the perfect day: calm waters (who cares about a little rain, right?) gorgeous other-worldly glaciers, and as a bonus, Curtis the black bear and gulls pursuing an eagle. We hiked just the right amount of challenging, and got as close to the glacier as was safe. Just: WOW!! And, then, Mike hosted comedy and native ghost stories on the row back, while Bryce entranced us with history of the area. And, hot drinks as a surprise treat! An absolutely unforgettable day of pure joy and local adventure!
