Mendenhall Glacier Trek

Overview
Spend your time in Juneau on an Alaskan wilderness hiking adventure as you get up close to the Mendenhall Glacier! This exhilarating tour will show you a stunning piece of Alaskan nature as you hike through the Tongass Rainforest towards the glacier. Then explore the edge of the glacier on foot where you could see dramatic crevasses and fascinating glacial formations.

The Mendenhall Glacier is receding at a fast pace and due to this we are seeing drastic changes to the surface of the glacier. For this reason, it is not safe to walk on the glacier. This trip will spend time exploring the glacier up close and hiking around the edges of it safely from the bedrock. The edge of the glacier has some of the most stunning features you will find; this is where ice formations, tunnels, and tubes tend to form creating those beautiful blue colors. These features are never guaranteed but do form throughout the summer.

This was one of my favorite adventures in Alaska, such a great experience being out in nature. Mila was absolutely amazing, she knew so much about the wildlife and the history of the Mendenhall Glacier. Felt completely at ease with her. Highly recommend if you want to experience the great outdoors and see a beautiful hike!

It's a solid hike of about 4.5 miles, then you put on your crampons and go walking on a Glacier! The hike is not a flat trail but is very doable (sturdy shoes or boots are a must). It's the prize at the end that you're there for. There was an ice cave there that we got to explore a bit. Then you back track the 4.5 miles back to the car. Our guide was knowledgeable and efficient. Gear was provided and well explained (having never worn crampons before). We enjoyed it and recommend it.

Thank you for your review! That is amazing you were able to visit an ice cave, as they are a rather unpredictable feature of the glacier and come and go as the glacier changes. Thank you for making us a part of your Alaskan vacation.

Guides were fantastic and even though we couldn't safely get on the ice, they made sure we still had an amazing experience!
