Took my wife and two teenage children on the lower Yough this past week. The trip was fantastic. The guides were great and fun. The trip lasted almost 4 hours because the water levels are low. I am sure the trip would be shorter when the water is higher and moving faster. The guides, while not in each raft, did a great job of guiding us through the more difficult parts of the river. My daughter had so much fun that she wants to come back when she is 16 so she can do the class V rapids on the upper Yough. Some important notes: 1. you do have to carry your raft a short distance to the river and then back up to the bus from the river when the trip is over. If you are in reasonable shape, this won't be a problem. But if you haven't worked out or are small, this will be a bit of a challenge. 2. lunch is a turkey, ham and cheese wrap. If you don't like or can't eat any of that, call ahead to advise the tour guides. 3. There are no bathrooms on the ride (almost a given), so be prepared to have a nature pee. 4. we were a bit sunburned and wished we brought sunscreen along with us to re-apply in the middle of the trip. 5. Gloves or hand protection might be helpful for those who haven't rowed in a while. The company has certain items for sale at their shed where you park so you can always pick up a waterproof camera, croakies or other small items you might have forgotten. We would highly recommend this trip.
