We are a family of wimps, so this was the perfect way for us to dip our toes in white water rapids. The Middle Yough trips is a ride down a Class 1 rapids - meaning it's mostly smooth sailing except for about 8 small rapids. There were two guides on the trip, only one of whom was visible and helpful throughout the course. But it was easy enough that my husband and I and our 9-year-old twin girls were able to handle any problems, such as the rapids, getting stuc on rocks, etc. The 11-mile trip took about 4 hours (including a lunch on shore, which the tour group provided). The scenery is absolutely breathtaking. It was fun enough my girls would like to try the Lower Yough tour, which is a class II or III rapids. Be forewarned: 11 miles of paddling will leave you a little sore the next day. Cost about $120 mid-week, with prices higher on the weekends.
