We did the Hell's Revenge 3 hour sunset tour with Xtreme 4x4. The name gives some inkling of what to expect. I kind of had an idea, since I booked it and looked at the website in advance. The rest of my group found out soon enough when, upon arrival at the petrified sand dunes that make up Hell's Revenge, our guide, Garrett, proceeded to release the suspension, basically turn the truck onto its side, then launch up what felt like an 80 degree-angled rock slope, to the top of the petrified dune and onward into the Hell's Revenge area. We went up "escalators" and down "elevators' (yes, felt like pretty much straight up and straight down), and dipped into massive truck-size pot holes and then climbed back out of them, and swerved into rollercoaster like banked turns in the sand, and overall screamed and laughed and had a blast. As Garrett, our guide, would say, "Heck yeah!" It was fun-scary, but I always felt safe too (family with kids aged 10 and 12). We were in 5 point restraints, and felt like we were in good hands with Garrett, who grew up off-roading in the area and had been working as a guide for 5 years or so. Also, it wasn't just about the crazy obstacles - we stopped at an amazing overlook of the Colorado river, and stopped again to see sunset over the petrified dunes. Garrett was fun, funny, and attentive throughout, and he took one of my favorite pictures of our whole trip - a silhouette shot of us in the sunset. My whole family ranks this as the top guided activity we did, because it was exhilarating, unlike anything we'd ever done before, the terrain was so unique to Moab, and Garrett was hilarious. There are tons of 4x4 tour options in Moab (some allow you to drive yourselves, some are not as crazy, etc.) For us, this was the perfect choice.
