Moulin Rouge on Broadway- Great Show-Beware of Can Can Seats-Covid Rules I found out I’d be in NYC (I live in Atlanta) two weeks before I got there, so I went online to book some tickets to Moulin Rouge. I always like to get really good seats when I see a show. I noticed that several of the closest seats (the “Can Can” seats) were available. I also noticed that from row 3 onward, it was almost booked solid. In hindsight, I know why. New Yorkers are SMART! I was excited to get to see the show up close, so I bit the bullet and splurged for the top seats in the house. Front corner Can Can… About a week later, I thought…I’m going to NYC...I should check the mask policy. The blue states have tended to keep the mask rules tighter… The current policy for Broadway shows as of August 2022 is “Masks Optional”....except…each show gets to decide. I saw three shows while I was there. Uh oh…Did I just pay premium dollar for Moulin Rouge to sit in the top seats for 2.5 hours in a mask even though I’m quadruple vaxxed? And even though there are treatments and the disease has essentially become endemic? I did. And not just a mask…but you have to wear an N95. Whoops. Should have bought tickets 3rd row or back…way cheaper, and I could have eaten and drank. These are first world problems, but still. They are serious at the theater….it felt like middle school with a really mean teacher enforcing the rules and rabid middle school peers around you making sure you followed the rules…complete with ridicule if you didn’t. So, those $45 dollar drinks you just bought? They will sit right there on the floor. The hypocrisy of policies like this and the attitudes that it creates in the people who are rabid about them are the reason we will get Republicans in charge… I saw a quote today by a well known left wing liberal…”I will endure the inconvenience of wearing a mask just so that people don’t think I’m a conservative”. And pre-Covd? I was a left wing liberal. Now, I’m rethinking. Hypocrisy never wins the day.
