We hired a driver/guide to Mt Vernon. By doing so we could take our time, have someone very knowledgeable at hand. As well, Louie, our guide, took us through Old Alexandria. He’s super flexible and fun. I can recommend him and his tour company.

I initially thought I got scammed. We literally payed this price to be driven to Mt Vernon, dropped off by ourselves and then met for the return drive to our hotel. That was unclear in the description and unexpected. We are a family of six with older/adult kids and have enjoyed guided tours in several cities. We did a few other guided tours in DC. (National Mall, Arlington Cemetery and Archives) I’ve never done a private tour that did not include a guide for the duration of our tour. One of our other guides confirmed that he guides at Mt Vernon with his clients. The positives: we were picked up at our hotel in a very comfortable vehicle. Our guide was very nice and seemed knowledgeable during the little time we spent with him. There was some confusion over the length of the tour and the operators took care of it and communicated quickly and clearly. But that caused some confusion on the back end of the tour when we met at the appointed time and didn’t get to stop at old town Alexandria. (We had done a drive through of a few blocks on the way). This tour was the same price as the others we’ve done that included a guide for the main attractions. This was a very expensive Uber!

Quote: I initially thought I got scammed. We literally paid this price to be driven to Mt Vernon, dropped off by ourselves and then met for the return drive to our hotel. At Journal Tour and Travels “We Never, ever drop off our clients and leave them by their selves neither scam nor Swindell anyone, as suggested.” The six-hour tour is performed exactly as its written on the description, it begins at hotel pick up 9:30am. and ends at hotel 3:30pm. The assigned tour guide initiates its historical narrative of the experience while driving through Old Town Alexandria, and GW Parkway once in the plantation, he/she walks with group into the orientation pavilion follow up by the grounds, explains in detail the itinerary to be followed and line group for their scheduled mansion tour… Not before letting them know that he/she will assist them with any request they may have, from beginning to end of service. (The experienced is design so parties have their privacy, however assigned tour guide are always in the grounds one text away). Quote: I’ve never done a private tour that did not include a guide for the duration of our tour. One of our other guides confirmed that he guides at Mt Vernon with his clients. Correct: “Meaning he/she is a Mt Vernon private tour guide and remains with its clients for the duration of its tour, that is one hour, with a ticket price of $500.00” See Viator link bellow. Quote: On the back end of the tour when we met at the appointed time and didn’t get to stop at old town Alexandria. Based on text messages reviewed at 12:14 pm. tour guide was asked by passenger what time would they need to leave Mount Vernon plantation to stop at Old Town Alexandria.? Tour guide replies at 2:45 pm. is fine.! However, text msg reveals passengers head out at 3:26 pm. and logbook registers Vehicle leaving Mount Vernon at 3:34 pm. (There was no more time left to make other stop than the hotel). Quote: This was a very expensive Uber! No sir, our personnel are professional licensed tour guides registered at the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs (DCRA) Government of the District of Columbia, your party had an experienced professional Tour Guide licensed # TGL 20572 who followed the established itinerary and was grateful for your gratuity gesture, when awareness of a difference in hours of service was brought to his attention, immediately contacted company management and corrected the blunder. Assuring you in a text msg that he was at your entire disposal. Unfortunately, our experience was not the one you were looking for, reason why it is crucial to do comparison research when considering purchasing a service online. Since what for some people suits perfect others don’t. Thank you for taking the time to write the review and letting us clear out your doubts.
